Go with Exactas and Swingers to fill the pockets

- Jack Milner

Punters relying on racing to help fi ll their coffers during the festive season will have to be razor sharp for the next two days.

Today’s meeting is at Greyville on the Polytrack while tomorrow we race at the Vaal and there is little doubt that if you can hit it just right, the champagne corks will be popping in celebration.

At both venues it could be worth looking at Swingers and Exactas as the right way to go as a lot of the races give the impression that two runners will be fighting them out.

One can hit the course running at Greyville in Race 1 as this Maiden Plate over 1000m where Macallan stands out as the runner to beat with Duchess Of Cornwell as the main danger.

That Exacta looks a good play and should get punters of the mark.

The same applies to Races 8 and 9. Race 8, in particular, is likely to be fought out by Purple Powahouse and Great Guy and that looks to be the Swinger on the card.

It is unlikely to pay big money but, as the expression goes, a winner’s a goo bet at any price.

The same could apply in Race 9 where Umzinduzi looks the horse to beat with At Your Request the danger, except his one will pay a litt le more.

At the Vaal tomorrow the events to hit big are Race 1, Race 2 and Race 6.

Godswood and Lagertha look set to fight out the opening event, and while neither Swingers nor Exactas will pay big money, they are work collecting.

Race 2 is a MR 88 Handicap over 1600m where Quattro Passi with Piere Strydom up and Eagle Alley, to be ridden by Lyle Hewitson, are expected to fight this out.

In fact, once could even include Candice Dawson-trained Master Supreme in your bets and take the Trifecta.

The Swinger with a litt le more value in it comes up in Race 6 where consistent Alec Laird-trained Leading Lad could finally get into the No 1 box after finishing a close second in both his last two runs.

Corne Spies-trained gelding, Attentive, who is by Byword, showed marked improvement when a strong-finishing second after being out of action for over four months and looks next best in a particularly moderate field
