Idle Bongani may be loaned out by Pirates

► Orlando Pirates are said to be looking to loan out Bongani Sam (below) in the next transfer window, as the young defender remains out of favour with coach Josef Zinnabuer. Sam has not even made the 18-man squad so far this season, with Innocent Maela and Paseka Mako the prefered players for the left back position. Phakaaathi has now heard that Sam was supposed to have been loaned out before the current campaign started, but a deal couldn’t be struck in time. “They are now targeting the next transfer window to get him a deal elsewhere. He is still young and needs to get more game time to gain some experience, and him staying at Pirates doesn’t help anyone, as it doesn’t look like he will be in the team anytime soon,” said a source. He also revealed that there are other players who might also be loaned out or off-loaded by Pirates, as they seek to strengthen their squad for their Caf Confederations Cup campaign.
