Feldman was an expert in his field

-

Like his friends and colleagues, I was devastated to read of the death of The Citizen movie critic Peter Feldman. He was a true doyen of film criticism, someone whose reviews I always read, whether or not I intended to watch the film.

I appreciated the way he got to the heart of a movie, irrespective of his views of it and, knowing his professionalism and expertise in his field, trusted his judgment. I looked forward to Fridays when his column appeared.

A couple of years ago, I had an opportunity of interviewing Peter for my show on our local Jewish community station Chai FM. I knew him by reputation, of course, but was extremely nervous to meet and chat to him.

Within seconds, however, Peter had put me at ease. I was struck by his modesty, gentleness and kindness.

We spoke about what it was like to be an arts journalist and it was a privilege to get a small glimpse into his illustrious career. He had a twinkle in his eye as he recalled meetings with the famed and celebrated. His enjoyment of what he did came through clearly. Indeed, it was Peter’s passion for his craft that allowed the rest of us to enjoy the fruits of his efforts. He will be much missed.
