Ban on imported cement makes no sense

The world is not dependent on SA. It is the other way around, writes

- Derek Botha.

Regarding Treasury’s ban on importing cement from foreign countries: working on projects in SA, I know the results of this type of decision taken by Treasury, but is no surprise to me.

SA is busy isolating itself and I cannot understand that somebody like Brian Perry, who is a respected person in our society, can propose such initiatives.

We all know what happened during 2010 with the construction of the soccer stadiums.

SA’s biggest drawback and challenge is our volatile labour market, which cannot be compared to other countries.

We saw what happened recently with the insurrection and the damages caused by unrest and violence, a culture created by the ANC.

The obvious solution is rather to lower the taxes on SA products and increase the taxes on imported products.

Self-isolation is not the answer. We all know what happened pre 1994.

The world is not dependent on SA. It is the other way around. We need investment from abroad.

Government never considered crime as their enemy, but crime contributed to the huge spike in prices of goods and services in SA and the people are paying the price for the mistakes of the ANC government.

The exchange rate is the next burden, due to the mismanagement and corruption of projects which created mistrust in our country by investors.
