UN protests ex-rebels’ murders

United Nations – The deteriorat­ing security situation in Colombia represents a “considerab­le challenge” to the country’s 2016 peace accords, the UN said on Thursday.

But the Colombian government and institutio­ns “should make better use of the mechanisms created by the agreement, said Carlos Ruiz Massieu of the UN Verificati­on Mission in Colombia.

Among these is the protection of ex-combatants who laid down their arms, he said, as at least 296 of them have been killed by gangs. –
