1. Upcycle furniture into doggy daybeds

Do you have an old cabinet with no purpose? When it comes to barkitecture you can upcycle your old furniture and transform it into a luxury day bed for your feline friends to snuggle into.

When it comes to using old furniture, it is important to remember to add in lots of soft comforts, including toys, cushions and blankets which will not only help complete your transformation but also put your dog at ease when testing out the space.

Top tip: When using old furniture make sure to remove any old nails or sharp objects that your dog could injure himself on.

2. Create a dog room under your stairs

The panelling under your stairs can often feel like a waste of space, but with the latest barkitecture trend surfacing on social media, TikTok and Pinterest have seen dog owners redesign their under the stairs storage space into a new room for their pets.

With this transformation, the space can be whatever you make of it. Some owners have gone as far as to add in a door, mailbox and light, while others have opted for a more stripped back look, with a few familiar favourites.

Top tip: If you have old bedding, why not give it a wash and donate it to your dog’s new living space to give an extra level of comfort to your pooch.

3. Try an at-home grooming parlour

During lockdown, the closure of grooming parlours meant owners switched to at-home pampering to ensure their pets stayed clean, healthy and comfortable. When it comes to pampering your pet, how about incorporating the barkitecture into your home with your very own grooming parlour?

Pooches often get muddy after a walk, so why not add in a washing station, or storage for all his toys into your utility room. However you style this, your pup will be sure to thank you for this little slice of luxury.

Top tip: If you are grooming your dog at home, make sure to trim their nails when you hear them clicking on the floor to prevent any discomfort.

4. Build a dog house

Dogs love spending time in the garden, relaxing and playing. Test out your carpentry skills by making your dog his very own dog house. This space will allow your pet to enjoy the garden and have somewhere comfortable to rest.

Some dog owners have gone a step further by building their pooches a dog house that replicates their house. The great thing about luxury dog houses that comes with the barkitecture trend, is they allow your pup to have some breathing space, to relax when you have guests around.

Top tip: Before building an outdoor dog house make sure you know your pooch’s habits. If he likes being able to have full visibility of the house, make sure to avoid any kind of roof that has overhanging eaves.

5. Transform an unused space into a dog room

If you’re lucky enough to have a room to spare, then why not go the extra mile and transform it into a dog room so your pup feels like one of the family. This way your dog will have his own space at home to retreat to when he gets tired, without feeling too far away from you.

Some owners have taken this idea to the extreme by adding dog-themed wallpaper, luxury beds, toy corners and more, that their pets will be sure to love.

Top tip: You can find unwanted furniture on Facebook Marketplace and other reselling apps for a fraction of the price, or sometimes for free.
