Control measures on flood relief a joke
I have the greatest of empathy about the disaster and suffering of people in KwaZulu-Natal.
And quite rightly, President Cyril Ramaphosa came along and announced the measures of relief for those suffering. But what does one make of the rider: that huge measures of control will be introduced with regard to the spending. I must admit at being uncertain whether I should laugh, cry or applaud him.
Such an announcement must be a joke considering that the only funds that the government has are tax money and every cent of expenditure should be under extreme scrutiny.
So, to now wish to control the KZN expenditure is nothing but a joke. On the other hand, the sad thing about it is that we will never know to what extent tax money has been stolen and, even worse, very little has happened to lock the big fish up.
