Dolly unfazed by guard of honour

It will surely be an emotional moment for Keagan Dolly if he has to do the guard of honour for his former team-mates at Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

The Kaizer Chiefs star however says he is not worried about that as the focus is on the game itself.

Amakhosi host DStv Premiership champions-elect Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Sunday where they are expected to do the guard of honour.

Sundowns have already clinched the league title – their fifth in a row and 12th overall with a few games to spare.

“The guard of honour is not for us as players, the office will handle that,” said Dolly yesterday when asked about his feelings on the guard of honour for former team-mates.

“We will listen to what the office says and do that. For us it is not to focus on that, it is to focus on the game and do our best we can on the day and try to win the game. They are obviously in good spirits having won the league. But for us it is about focusing on Sundowns.

It’s simple – we have to focus on our game.”

He also admitted that it hurts that Amakhosi have finished another season without a trophy.

When he joined, he said he wanted to be a part of the team who will bring back the glory days at Naturena.

Chiefs will go into the match with some confidence having won their last game, beating Marumo Gallants 1-0 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday. But it will take a gallant effort from them to stop the marauding Sundowns.

“Obviously we were happy with the three points,” said Dolly of Tuesday’s win. “It was a very important game for us to get maximum points from. For me it is not about (scoring) the goals but the fight and the passion we showed as a team that helped us throughout the game.

“Hopefully we can continue with the performances going forward. The past few weeks for me have not been good. We have not been in a good space as a team.

“But I think after Tuesday’s game we can continue with the performances and look forward to the future.”
