RECORD 42 GAMES WITHOUT A GOAL

DStv Premiership clubs have set an unwanted record in the 2021/22 season with the most goalless draws ever in a single campaign. There were two more on Saturday to take the tally for the season to 42, already three more than the 39 goalless games in the 2001/02 season. It should also be remembered that back then teams played 34 matches per term. The other two “worst” seasons for 0-0 draws are the inaugural Premiership campaign in 1996/97 (37) and 2017/18 (35). The biggest “culprits” this season are Cape Town City, who have played to an astonishing nine goalless draws in their 28 games. They have 12 draws overall.
