UN blames Lebanon’s govt

-

Beirut – Lebanon’s government and central bank are responsible for an unprecedented financial crisis that has impoverished the majority of the population, the UN said yesterday.

It said the crisis was “manufactured” by failed policies and urged the country to “change course” as parliamentary elections loom on 15 May. Since 2019, Lebanon’s currency has lost 90% of its value against the dollar, prices have risen 200% and the poverty rate has shot beyond 80% of the population. –
