Cops to blame for living in a pigsty
Your lead story on the front page of Friday’s edition regarding the “Cops live in a pigsty” at barracks in Kempton Park is, to a degree, misleading. It absolves the officers and their families who occupy the premises from littering the stairways, stairwells and the public spaces, like the passage ways, not only within the building but so, too, outside the premises.
The litter is evidence the cops and their families must also bear some responsibility and they are to blame for turning the place into a pigsty, which one certainly gleans from the pictures captured.
This view doesn’t absolve the government department concerned for not maintaining the infrastructure like the sewerage and its lack of ongoing repairs and general maintenance appears to be a trend that has entrenched itself in our government departments, as well as the state-owned enterprises.
This state of affairs begs questions: is it because of just plain laziness or cadre deployment into positions in government departments of unqualified people?
It’s indeed a very sad state of affairs and those responsible should be held accountable and the appropriate disciplinary action taken.
