Bucs primed to finish job

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

It’s all about wrapping up the job for Orlando Pirates, when they welcome Libyan side Al-Ahli Tripoli in the second leg of the semifinals of the Caf Confederation Cup at Orlando Stadium tomorrow evening.

Pirates pulled off an impressive performance away from home when they downed the Libyans 2-0 at the Martyrs of February Stadium a week ago.

The win for Pirates boosted their chances of making a first continental final since 2015, when they lost in the Confederation Cup final to Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.

Pirates will hope Ghanaian striker Kwame Peprah (above) can continue his fine form at Orlando tomorrow. Peprah was the driving influence against Al-Ahli Tripoli in Libya, even though it was Innocent Maela and Goodman Mosele who got the goals.

The Ghanaian striker hit the crossbar before the ball came into the path of Maela, and the left-back scored from close range with a header.

For the second goal, Peprah broke through from the right of the Bucs attack, before spotting Mosele inside the box and played in a cross from which the midfielder made no mistake on the half-volley to extend Pirates’ lead.

The Tripoli club has a mountaintoclimb, seekingaminimum of two away goals, while keeping Pirates scoreless just to take the match into extra time.

The North African team will be looking to striker Anis Saltou to help them take the game away from Pirates.

Looking at their away record in the tournament from the group stages, Tripoli are not good travellers, having only won one of three group matches away and a goalless draw against Al-Ittihad on the road.

The winner of this tie will book a ticket to the final of the tournament, which is set to take place in Uyo, Nigeria next Friday evening.
