Snaith’s double power for G1

NOMINATIONS: POMP AND POWER, DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE ENTERED FOR DAILY NEWS 2000

- Jack Milner

Rain In Holland stands out among Woolavington 2000 entries.

Trainer Justin Snaith could be the one to follow in the Daily News 2000 while Sean Tarry looks to hold the trump card in the Woolavington 2000 for fillies.

The two Grade 1 races for threeyear-olds will be run over 2000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday 28 May.

Snaith has nominated Grade 1 Cape Guineas winner Double Superlative and Grade 1 Cape Derby champion Pomp And Power to run in the Daily News 2000 and they will find plenty of support as they prepare for even bigger glory in the R5-million Hollywoodbets Durban July (Grade 1) over 2200m on Saturday 2 July.

Both horses had their warmups in the Grade 2 WSB Guineas over 1600m on Saturday 7 May and Snaith was open about the fact they would need those runs. Pomp And Power did well to finish third, beaten just 0.80 lengths by Zapatillas,

while Double Superlative ran fifth, just 1.55 lengths off the winner.

Both were badly drawn, but this time they had differing destinies with Pomp And Power at No 1 while

Double Superlative once again drew widest of all at No 13.

The interesting fact about these two Grade 1 races is that it is often the first time runners from all three major centres meet and there will be some opposition from Mike de Kock, who has entered Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas winner Safe Passage and Grade 1 Derby champion Aragosta.

Also among the entries is Joe Soma-trained Red Saxon, who touched off Safe Passage to win the Grade SA Classic over 1800m at Turffontein.

Brett Crawford-trained Zapatillas will be looking to add the Daily News 2000 to his Guineas victory.

Tarry-trained Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara winner Rain In Holland is likely to go off at a short price to add the Woolavington 2000 to her already impressive record.

Supplementary entries close at 11am on Friday with declarations by 11am on Monday 23 May.
