The major leagues in the USA and South America are gathering momentum and TAB add-ins totalling R750,000 to six Soccer 4, 6 and 10 pools this weekend will do much to heighten interest.

Major League Soccer in the USA had a busy midweek programme and the relentless pace continues at the weekend with more key clashes as the battle for playoff places intensifies.

Champions New York City came from 0-3 down after 30 minutes to draw 4-4 in Cincinnati, scoring three goals in a seven-minute spell on the stroke of half-time, and will be in buoyant mood for their home game on Sunday night against Atlanta United.

If they win, they could go top of the Eastern Conference again. They were at the helm this time last week, but have dropped to third despite the point in Cincinnati.

Philadelphia Union beat them last weekend to take over at the top by two points, but slipped on Wednesday night in a surprise reversal at bottom-of-the-table Chicago.

That, combined with NYC's draw at FC Cincinnati, has allowed Montreal to take over top spot on goal difference from Union.

Montreal won away at Seattle in midweek, but do not play again until Tuesday while Union have a Sunday visit to Columbus and could struggle.

In the Western Conference, Los Angeles have opened a sevenpoint gap and look a banker bet to win away at Vancouver tomorrow night.

Brazil's Serie A league sees topof-the-table Palmeiras at home to third-placed Athletico Paranaense on Sunday, while secondplaced Corinthians could come unstuck at Fluminense.

Eyes also remain firmly on Flamengo and their fluctuating fortunes. They have made a managerial change after a slow start to the season and now look to be turning a corner. Their last league match was a handy 3-0 victory over America Mineiro and then on Wednesday they won away in Colombia in the Copa Libertadores. It gives Flamengo hope of forcing a result away at Santos tomorrow.

In Ireland tonight Derry City look a good bet for an away success at Bohemians and should consolidate their third place in the standings, while St Patrick's Athletic should be too strong for Drogheda United and stay in fourth spot.

Both matches are included in tonight's R250,000-added Soccer 10 pool, which is likely to have soared way above the R2-million mark when it closes at 20:45.

The top two sides in the Swedish league - AIK Stockholm and BK Hacken - are also expected to win this weekend, but thirdplaced Djurgarden are not as assured of success. They play at home on Sunday against Hammarby, who trail them in the standings on goal difference.
