CATALOGUE: 115 COLLECTOR’S CARS ON OFFER
United Nations of car aficionados, with bidders from 16 countries expected, either in Jozi or online.
Hundreds of bidders from 16 countries will be battling it out for more than 115 collector's cars, which will be going under the hammer in a spectacular multimillion-dollar auction in Johannesburg tomorrow.
The event, combining a mega car auction with a classic car exhibition, is expected to draw crowds of automotive fans to Montecasino in Fourways.
The Classic and Collectables Car Auction has attracted intense global interest, according to Creative Rides Classic and Collectables Auctions chief executive Kevin Derrick.
“We're set to open the auction in Johannesburg at 11am, which for some of our bidders in the US and Canada will mean a really early start of 3am.
“It'll be even more challenging on the other side of the world, where New Zealand bidders are in for a very late night with the auction only beginning at 9pm their time.
“All the far-flung international collectors we've registered seem fairly enthusiastic about the idea of pulling ‘all-nighters' to bid on the live and virtually streamed auction, though, because it means a shot at owning their dream cars.”
The remarkable auction will span nearly 90 years of automotive design, featuring numerous prized collector cars rarely seen on the global market.
Among the cars on auction will be: a 1984 Alfa GTV 6 3L, one of only 212 ever built; red 1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 which was designed and constructed by Pininfarina; red 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello; 1982 Maserati Merak – an automotive sculpture designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro; 1958 Chevrolet Corvette; 1973 Dodge Charger; 1972 E-Type Jaguar; 1980 Porsche 911 SC Coupe Turbo; and a 2011 BMW M3 Frozen.
Derrick says the intensity of international interest is evidenced by analysing traffic across Creative Rides' digital platforms.
“In the few weeks since we launched the Classic and Collectables Car Auction campaign, there have been an astonishing 2.8 million views of the e-catalogue [https:// creativeridesauctions.com/auction-catalogue] and the promotional video and image galleries on our social media platforms.
“This digital traction, coupled with widespread media interest has resulted in pre-auction registrations rising quickly into the hundreds.”
Derrick says most registrations to date (https://creativeridesauctions.com/registration/) have come from within South Africa.
“Local collectors are keen to see the classics on auction remain in the country, so we expect competitive bidding.
“Most South African bidders are from Gauteng and the Western Cape, with Bloemfontein and the Garden Route also fairly well represented.”
The international field is a veritable United Nations, according to Derrick, and includes the US, Canada, the Bahamas, the UK, Italy, Malta, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Zambia.
“The foreign bidders and some South Africans who can't be in Johannesburg for the live auction will be watching via virtual stream and bidding online in real time.
“Car enthusiasts around the world not taking part in the auction won't miss out, though.
“They can also be part of the action simply by clicking on our virtual stream public link [https://youtu.be/FXfo26l4iZQ].”
Derrick says the spectacular auction collection will be open for public viewing at Montecasino before the sale, between 9am and 4pm today.
Tomorrow, gates open at 8am, with the auction starting at 11am.
Entrance is free and classic car enthusiasts are invited to go and experience the excitement of a mega auction for themselves.
