Chiefs, Downs square up

ʂ Two TAB Soccer 10 players each won some R400,000 as a result of Sundowns’ shock loss on Wednesday night and millions of Kaizer Chiefs’ fans will be hoping to see the reigning PSL champions suffer a second successive home defeat tomorrow.

TAB soccer fans are in for another blockbuster weekend with six cash-boosted pools and an array of enthralling matches, including the PSL clash between reigning champions Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs in Pretoria that forms part of tomorrow's likely R2-million Soccer 10 pool.

But for Manchester United fans the outlook is not so rosy after the club's new era under Erik ten Hag got off to an abysmal start last weekend with a surprise home loss to Brighton and Hove Albion. Hopes that a new broom would sweep clean now seem premature and the fallout this week from the defeat seems to suggest more trouble on the horizon.

United now face a fresh test tomorrow when they take on Brentford away. On paper Ten Hag's squad should win in London,

but there is every chance of the Red Devils being handed more humiliation in a match also included in tomorrow's mega Soccer 10 pool, which starts with R250,000 added by TAB.

Under whelming pre-season recruitment contrast with the good business that the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have done in the transfer market and leaves Manchester United now scrambling for solutions.

There is also the usual dressing room talk being made public, although how much is fact and how much is fiction is unclear. Apparently many players want Cristiano Ronaldo out because they are “fed up” with the on-going transfer saga around the Portuguese

superstar and the new manager does not look to have made the club a happier place.

The clash with Brentford will be illuminating as will Sunday's London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

Of late, the Blues have held the upper hand over Spurs with victory in the last four clashes between the two clubs and a clean sheet each time.

But Spurs have been sharpened by their maniacal coach Antonio Conte, whose passion and attention to detail is paying dividends.

Meanwhile Chelsea are still looking to settle their squad and must find a striker to replace Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, who are both out the door.

Former African Footballer of the Year Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is said to be headed to Chelsea, but certainly not before Sunday.

The SA version of “El Clasico” between champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs is obviously the pick of the DStv Premiership games through the weekend.

And it follows hot on the heels of Sundowns' shock home loss to TS Galaxy on Wednesday night, which saw two TAB soccer customers each win R400,000 on Soccer 10!

That was Sundowns' first home defeat in 16 months and they need to regroup quickly to avoid a second successive home defeat tomorrow.
