Logan’s charge to make an impact at Kranji

- Luke Middlebrook

A Class 1 1600m Handicap stands out as the highest-rated race on tomorrow’s Kranji card in Singapore, with racing back on the turf track.

For champion trainer contender Donna Logan, Super Impact looks well placed to land his first local win in the $70,000 Class 3 race over 1600m on turf.

Super Impact formerly raced in New Zealand where he boasted a great record of three wins and two placings from six starts. Following two unplaced efforts at his first two local starts, the son of Real Impact showed big improvement in the Group 1 Singapore Derby last time out when blinkers were applied for the first time.

Despite being held up from the 450m to the 200m, the promising five-year-old attacked the line strongly late finish a 0.50-length third.

Resuming off a 69-day break,

Super Impact has caught the eye in a recent trial where he cruised to the line first with plenty in hand, suggesting he is ready to run a big race first-up.

Elsewhere, promising threeyear-old Pacific Star can bounce back to winning ways in the $50,000 Class 4 1200m Handicap.

Pacific Star burst onto the scene first-up in Singapore in early August, winning comfortably by 3.75 lengths in an Open Maiden at this track and distance. Though he wasn’t able to win again second-up, he was far from disgraced as he raced wide throughout on-pace and stuck on well for third place, beaten just 0.75 lengths.

Pacific Star enters tomorrow’s race off the back off a strong recent trial, in which he closed off in an eye- catching manner when ridden off the pace. The up-andcomer also gets Nunes in the saddle for the first time, which is a significant factor to his winning chances as he tackles Class 4 for a second time.
