Timm’s impact at Buccaneers couldn’t go unnoticed

Just two months ago, Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm thought he wasn’t ready to be playing for Bafana Bafana.

But now, with friendlies against Angola and Mozambique coming up, head coach Hugo Broos has called-up the midfielder.

Timm said this prior to Bafana friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana in September, despite his impressive performances for the Buccaneers.

In his own words, the former Marumo Gallants player said: “I don’t think I have reached my best yet, it’s a transition and it takes time. I am also trying to be patient with myself.”

But his impact at the Buccaneers just could not go unnoticed, as he has been consistent with his play and making valuable contributions to help Pirates with their balance in midfield.

The 30-year-old has also helped the club win the MTN8, and this having only joined the Soweto giants at the beginning of the season.

Timm won the Man-of-the Match award in the final against AmaZulu and has welcomed his senior national team call-up with open arms.

“I guess this is just God’s timing. Maybe this is actually the right time to be called-up because I remember when I said I wasn’t ready and it became evident because I wasn’t selected,” said Timm, who has instantly won the hearts of Pirates supporters.

“It feels good to have been selected and I’m very honoured to go on and represent my country.

It is going to be a great experience and I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s been a good few months with Pirates and I’m glad to have been able to make a positive impact in the team. But this is all because of the hard work at training and the togetherness that we have as players. If you look the midfielders, we always push each other to work hard.”

Bafana will play Mozambique on Thursday and Angola on Sunday, using the friendlies as preparation for March’s Afcon qualifiers against Liberia.
