Her partnership with DC.One ‘a perfect fit’.

From alcohol to hair products and cellphone endorsements, local celebrities extending their brands into other avenues is becoming an extra way to grow their businesses and remain in the public eye. Multiple streams of income which align with a star’s personality always stand out.

Presenter and singer Gigi Lamayne, 28, has joined DC.One and its Hypnotic collection. DC.One offers a sexy range of shoes she not only considers good quality but affordable for the local market.

The partnership came about when the “ice-cream” rapper decided to extend her brand into fashion – but have it done her way.

This is a first for South Africa, as no other female rapper has bagged a shoe deal of this proportion.

Lamayne said a friend told her DC.

One was looking for a partnership, and because she loves all things lifestyle, this was a perfect fit, as well as giving her the opportunity to live out a childhood dream of having her own shoe range.

Speaking to The Citizen at the launch of her shoe, Lamayne said: “My mom had one pair of shoes growing up, and they would get ruined to the point of being unwearable.

“When I was approached to do my shoe range, I thought of every South African who could not afford shoes and how I wanted to be that person who could bring variety to the market without breaking the bank.

“My mother’s story has deeply affected how I would like to help people and market my brand.” Her collection, Rock & Co, is an edgy range for those who love fashion and all things glitzy.

It includes platforms, which have made a comeback from the 1990s, slim heels for the office, which have a satin finish, sling-back heels and sassy fishnet boots, which resemble fishnet stockings that elongate the legs.

The group previously worked with male rapper Kwesta and supplies online fashion outlets.
