Van Rensburg in line for Polytrack double

- Jack Milner

Jockey Marco van Rensburg has been making a number of profitable trips to KwaZulu-Natal and he can do bettors a favour at Hollywoodbets Greyville today with an early double.

As is so often the case with these midweek meeting on the Polytrack it is generally a testing card and Van Rensburg can provide bettors with a bit of value in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m, where he rides Baby On Board for trainer Robbie Hill.

After two moderate opening runs at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, this daughter of Potala Palace was given an outing on the Polytrack over 1400m and despite getting a bump at the start, did well enough to finish third, beaten 1.70 lengths by Daddy’s Jet.

It is clear the run was no fluke because Baby On Board did receive some betting support to go off at 7-1.

That was her first run on the Polytrack and with the experience under her belt, she could shed her maiden. She is well drawn at No 2 and that could give Van Rensburg the run of the race.

African Beat stand out as the obvious danger.

Van Rensburg should also be on the mark again with Paris Rain in Race 2 where he teams up with trainer MJ Odendaal in this a Maiden Plate over 1700m.

This three-year-old gelding is improving with each run of late and has been narrowly beaten in his last two starts. The step up in distance should suit and with his main form danger, Medal Of Freedom, drawn badly at No 11, and Paris Rain jumping from pole position, Van Rensburg once again should have this Ideal World gelding well positioned from the off.

It is also worth noting he was fitted with blinkers last time when he ran his best race to date, and they have been retained for this race.
