Hunt: We must shake off drubbing

- Katlego Modiba

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt is hoping his team can shake off the heavy defeat to Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal where they were hammered 4-0.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori are also without a win in six DStv Premiership matches in 2024. SuperSport will end the season without a trophy as the Nedbank Cup represented their only realistic chance of silverware.

United will host Polokwane

City in tomorrow’s league encounter at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium looking to bounce back to winning ways.

“My biggest defeat in 30 years in a cup game so it’s not easy to take, but you have to,” Hunt said.

“Everybody is playing for something. We have a quick turnaround. Is it a good or bad thing? I don’t know, but I’d rather play. We play on Wednesday [tomorrow] and we need to pick ourselves up.

“What we say between now and then, you can talk all day, but it’s not going to help – we need to get things. We have an area where we need to get better.

“You don’t want to dwell on it too much. There are things you normally do after a game. You talk, but we need to get better at certain things which we weren’t. I mean the first goal, the ball bobbled and bounced and they scored so it was a lot that today.

“The scoreline is obviously very bad but we’ve got to also take a lot of things into perspective.”

The 59-year-old is hoping for a change in fortunes in the league as he targets a second-place finish.

Five draws and one defeat has not helped their cause either.

“I think it’s (second place) very attainable. I think (based) on who we’re playing and where we’re playing, there’s still a big chance and things can turn quickly,” he concluded.

Heading into the game against SuperSport, City have also blown hot and cold with three defeats, a single victory and stalemate in their last five matches.

The last match between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw but the Limpopo side recorded a 4-1 victory over Matsatsantsa in the Carling Knockout.
