Unfortunately my morning breakfast was spoilt by the alarming headline greeting me from my favourite newspaper, ‘Zuma’s big comeback’. Can things get much worse? Apparently they can – as the man himself announces he has ‘unfinished business’ in the Union Buildings. Seems there are still untouched reserves of cash left in the odd SOE awaiting his attention.

Start with a whiff of corruption. Add dodgy tenders, together with construction and taxi mafias. Stir with a dysfunctional criminal justice system. What do you get? The need for bodyguards. All symptomatic of a failed government.

JZ brought on e-tolls. No-one mentions that now. The ANC have been scrapping them for the last 10 years. They expect us to believe them. They are a little slow on the uptake. Thank heavens for Wayne Duvenage and Outa. I suggest JZ and CR suck on a laxative tablet.

In South Africa everything is governed by the majority. To all the people who obediently paid e-tolls, sorry for you. You backed the wrong horse. Hopefully you will get something out of it.

Maybe this time the ANC will get a Hillary Clinton surprise. The party was organised, invites were out, they flew in from all over the world and then the shock: Donald Trump won. Who knows?

Peter Bachtis, there is no way the ANC will give up their lives of luxury anytime soon. The fact that they’re not actually doing something for the country isn’t really an issue. Every election you just turn the lights back on for a few weeks and appear to be doing stuff to keep the people happy and when the results are in celebrate – and it’s back to same old same old.

Jacob Zuma says he has unfinished business in the Union Buildings. Come back, Guptas, all is forgiven.

Excellent column last Thursday by Kekeletso Nakeli. Well said.

Just who is Dr Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, the new mayor of Ekurhuleni? Yes, we know he was a councillor. All a political CV. Dr of what? Philosophy (science or literature), medical or ‘other’? Capable to manage a city? If so, a rarity in SA today. Peter H
