Hamas trying to invent its history
Thank you so much, Ian Hughes, for your letter, “Israel is the occupying power, not Hamas.” First off: Israel is not the “occupying power” in Gaza. In 2007, Hamas wrested control away from the Palestinian Authority legislature. It has not held an election since. Hamas is the governing power. In fact, Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005.
Second, Israel has supplied the West with fantastic defence and communication systems in return for armaments and support. The Israelis are leaders in this field. They are also “allies”.
Hamas is a militant movement committed to the obliteration of Israel in the religious context of jihad. Hamas would not hesitate to inflict the same destruction on Israel given the chance.
Article 13 of the Hamas Charter states: “Initiatives and socalled peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance movement.”
Thus, Hamas does not want to negotiate a ceasefire. They’re blocking every suggestion. The Oslo Accord is a peace agreement between the Palestinian Liberation Organisation and Israel that Hamas has ignored by sending thousands of rockets into Israel.
Those who are exerting pressure on Israel are none other than the millions of Muslim refugees who fled their own countries, and are now domiciled in the “hateful” West.
Hamas started the war contravening two major articles of the Geneva Convention. Why have they not been charged with genocide in the International Criminal Court? They are solely responsible for the bloodshed in Gaza.
There has never been an ancient, independent Palestinian state in Israel. They’re trying to invent a history for themselves. It’s a myth and nobody has yet proved me wrong.
