Kings aiming for successful Griffons clash

THE EP Kings will be out to prove a point to their home fans when they play the Griffons in an Absa Currie Cup First Division match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium tomorrow (kick-off 7pm).

“We feel as a group we did not perform to our ability in our last two games against the Falcons and the Bulldogs and we are determined to set that right,” EP’s director of rugby Alan Solomons said.

“We know we are in for tough match because the Griffons have picked up form of late and played very well.”

The Kings will be bidding to stretch their unbeaten run to 12 matches in the First Division.

“The leadership in our team has always been very strong and there has never been any complacenc­y,” Solomons said.

Kings coach Matt Sexton admitted his team had started slowly against the Bulldogs, despite eventually winning 35-19.

“We are trying different things this week and everyone in the team is up for the challenge and looking forward to it,” said Sexton.

With the season reaching a dramatic climax, the Kings will be hoping to beat the Griffons and set up a mouth-watering showdown against the second-placed Pumas in Port Elizabeth next Friday.

The Kings team is: SP Marais, Marcello Sampson, Wayne Stevens, Tiger Mangweni (v-capt), Paul Perez, George Whitehead, Falie Oelschig, Schalk Ferreira, Hannes Franklin, Clint Newland, Cornell du Preez, Darron Nel, David Bullbring, Wimpie van der Walt, Luke Watson (capt). Replacemen­ts: Bobby Dyer, Charl du Plessis, Wayne van Heerden, Mpho Mbiyozo, Scott Mathie, Wesley Dunlop, Siyanda Grey.
