NELSON Mandela Bay will be a hive of activity this weekend as the PE Tens – one of the biggest rugby tournaments in the world – kicks off.

The event takes place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium fields on Friday and Saturday.

It promises to be an action-packed event with 32 rugby teams battling it out.

PE Tens matches involve two teams taking each other on with 10 players a side.

It will coincide with the South African leg of the HSBC Sevens world series, which is expected to attract about 60 000 spectators.

The line-up of entertainment includes Me & Mr Brown, Robbie Wessels, Henk Grimsell and the Commercial Pilots.

The bands will perform on Friday night.

Me & Mr Brown member Dan Green said the band was known for its electric atmosphere during performances.

“We are looking forward to rocking PE and bringing the party mood.”

He said the two-memberband would perform cover versions.

“We will also bring brilliant new songs along with the old classics that people can sing along.”

Green said it would be their first time performing in the Bay.

“This will be the best party they’ve ever seen.”

He described Me & Mr Brown as a party band which had been playing for five years.

Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism spokeswoman Phrosne Phillips said hosting both rugby events was an opportunity to market the city as a holiday destination.

“The high media coverage we get through such events creates an awareness of who we are and what we have to offer.

“This is also an opportunity to leverage on the name after which our city is named,” she said.
