HIGH-RIDING Bay Stars will look to retain their top position in the league standings when they clash with Matta Milan in a Safa Eastern Cape Second Division match in Dutywa tomorrow.

The Port Elizabeth side are currently leading the log, with a single point separating them from the second-placed East London outfit, FC Buffalo, who are on 12 points.

Stars are unbeaten after playing five matches, winning four and drawing one, while Milan, placed ninth, have played the same number of games, with two draws, two losses and a win.

Stars team manager Nicholas Myataza said the team had two more league games before the Christmas break and would be aiming to maintain their No 1 position until the league resumes next year.

“We want to keep our winning momentum and stretch our lead at the top. When the season started, we

went on a buying spree to bring quality players into the team to help us challenge for the league and we are satisfied with the progress of the team.”

Myataza described the Dutywa side Milan as a competitive and strong team, but said his team would be ready for them.

He said Stars’ mission was to use their scoring chances.

Meanwhile, struggling Highbury will welcome Kokstad Liverpool at the NMMU Second Avenue campus on Sunday.

The home side are in 13th position with three losses and two draws after five matches, while Liverpool have lost all their games.

Highbury coach Garth Dickinson said the team had recovered from their last defeat against Champion FC and had rectified their mistakes during their weekly training sessions.

“I’ll be making a few changes and bringing in some new faces because it will be embarrassing to lose in front of our supporters. The first 20 minutes will be very important for us. We must score and avoid conceding a goal.”

He said they knew Liverpool’s style of play. Highbury’s players would be well prepared and ready to collect all three points.
