Arts community doing good

-

ART Gallery in Cuyler Street is hosting three very different events on the Port Elizabeth arts scene this December. The Home is where the Art is

... exhibition will help someone start, or enhance, their own art collection.

You can buy your loved ones a creation this festive season from some of South Africa’s leading artists and ceramicists.

Works available are priced from R50 to R50 000.

The exhibition runs until December 22.

Then invite your friends to “take a walk on the arts side” with a walking art tour. Top up your cultural cup and join Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and experience an arts walk in Central on Friday December 14.

Meet at ART Gallery in Cuyler Street at 8.30am to start at 9am. Parking is available in Rose Street, around the corner from the gallery.

The walk will include ART Gallery, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum, artEC, Tin House and the Ron Belling Art Gallery.

‘ He mentors and teaches beautiful little souls in the township

You can browse their current exhibitions and artists’ work on display.

Thirdly, an initiative by artist Sandy Coffey – drinks on the gallery deck as part of a “giving back” theme on Friday Decem- ber 14 from 5pm to 8pm. “Let’s share a drink, chat about life and celebrate our blessings, and use the opportunity to give back,” she says.

“Come on over to ART Gallery for drinks on the deck. We, as an arts community, can do much good together. This year, we are supporting John Lombardo’s Art for Youth programme in his efforts to bring about change through art.

“He mentors and teaches beautiful little souls in the township. Bring a little gift – wrapped. The greatest need is stationery for school-going kids – or donate some money – and pop in for some cheer! Bring your own drinks and snacks.”
