Create art inspired by the Afcon

THE holiday art programme at the Nelson Mandela Metropolit­an Art Museum in Port Elizabeth will offer diverse and interestin­g activities to do in the summer holidays.

The activities include paper crafts, model making using card, recycling found objects and making a makarapa for the 2013 Orange-Afcon tournament.

For inspiratio­n and guidance, activities use the backdrop of current exhibition­s to encourage participan­ts to explore art-making techniques. The holiday programme is as follows: PAPER CRAFT Age: 7 to 14 years Time: 9am to 12 noon Dates: Wednesday December 12: Pop-up greeting cards Thursday December 13: Model making Friday December 14: Decorative paper crafts

The workshop is aimed at children between seven and 14 years old, focusing on paper crafts. Children will work with fun themes on different days exploring paper and card.

The workshop promises fun and excitement for both girls and boys, they will be making functional art from greeting cards to functional items made from paper.

The participan­ts may bring items they would like to add in their art.

Port Elizabeth is one of the cities chosen to host the 2013 Orange-Afcon tournament matches in January. Wouldn’t it be nice to watch the match wearing your own designed makarapa?

To facilitate the success of this two-day workshop, space is limited to 15 people so early booking is advised. Each workshop costs R30 inclusive of art material and equipment. Please provide your own lunch. Bookings are essential as space is offered on a first come first serve criteria.
