Island City should prove to be easy pickings for Academy outfit

BAY Stars Academy will favour their chances of continuing their climb up the league table when they host Island City at the NMMU Missionvale campus tomorrow.

While the Academy are eighth on the log with three matches in hand, Island are tied at the bottom of the log with just one point to their credit.

Last month, Bay were docked three points following a clash of colours of their socks in the match against Camper United. However, the decision was reversed this week by the Safa-NMB disciplinary committee and the match will be rescheduled.

A relieved Bay manager Graham Harrison said the decision meant the club maintained its unbeaten record and would push ahead to win the league.

“The boys were down after the points were needlessly docked [against Camper United] but the decision of the Safa-NMB DC in our favour has put a spring in their step,” Harrison said.

Bay are due to play Callies at the Adcock Stadium on Sunday. However, Callies played in the Safa-NMB MTN Games quarterfinal last night and, depending on their progress, the match may be called off.

Meanwhile, Lion City will struggle to maintain their position at the top of the Safa-NMB SAB League when they play Tomorrow Stars at the NU9 Stadium in Motherwell tomorrow.

Stars – who trail City by four points with a match in hand – have a 100% record and the best goal-scoring record in the league, having scored 24 goals with just nine against. Should Lion City slip, Real City – who are just two points behind – should become the new log-leaders.

Hotspurs will favour their chances of maintaining their unbeaten run when they host Crystal Palace at Mooredyke on Sunday.

Fixtures: Tomorrow: Tomorrow Stars v Lion City, Highland Spurs v Callies, Bay Stars Academy v Island City, Showvillage United v Real Aces.

Sunday: Subs v Highland Spurs, Hotspurs v Crystal Palace, Callies v Bay Stars Academy, Island City v Real City.
