AFTER five years in the music industry, New Brighton kwaito duo Sithembiso Kula, known as Mathousand, and Lungile Msizi, known as Sdudla (“the fat one”), have finally achieved a big break.

The pair are now working with Johannesburg company Baainar Records.

The duo, who broke into the music scene with their song Nabo Besiza, said they were working closely with Baainar Records and, as a result, would be featured on the debut album of NaakQ (MJ in Generations), which is to be released later this year.

Baainar Records is owned by Motherwell-born Lunga Nombewu, who made headlines last year when he signed well-known US DJ Nick Holder and NaakQ.

“This is a big break for us and it is also great that we will feature NaakQ on our upcoming CD

“We have been in the music industry for many years and have produced hit music which was loved locally. Unfortunately, we were never marketed outside the province. Working with Baainar Records is a big step towards realising our dreams,” 33-year-old Mathousand said.

At the moment, the two are busy promoting their 14-track album Istimela Sase Bhayi, which was released late last year.

“We decided to shoot a music video, which is now in the final editing stages,” Mathousand said.

He and the 31-year-old Sdudla are also working on their fourth album. “What excites us is that the album will be released nationally – unlike our previous work, which was only released in the Eastern Cape,” Mathousand said.

“All that we ask is for the Eastern Cape people to show us their support. There is no need for us to go and look for greener pastures outside the province.

“That’s why on this album we decided to feature local talent. We have worked with Uitenhage group Fohloza, Point 5, Nobhele and many more.”
