LETTERS IN BRIEF
THANKS to Deidre and her team for a wonderful and informative evening tasting the award-winning South African Three Ships Whisky. Thank you also for the prize that I won: A Weekend Post red T-shirt which my husband grabbed. You might see him pounding the Walmer pavements at 5.30am on any given morning. A lanyard for my errant keys. A moleskin notebook which my daughter needs for her journalism work. I will definitely be entering more competitions! MARY ANN ENDLEY
THE Faculty of Law at NMMU has taken note of an anonymous complaint by a parent in the Weekend Post of 1 June 1. We find it unfortunate that the parent did not approach the faculty with a specific complaint regarding both the module and the lecturer concerned, as we would then have been able to address it.
The concerned parent is welcome to take up the matter with the acting dean, Prof A Mukheibir, at andre.mukheibir@nmmu.ac.za (until July 22) or thereafter to contact the dean, Prof Vivienne Lawack, at Vivienne@nmmu.ac.za PIETER SWART, NMMU
I WAS taken aback at the discrepancy in security between former Model C schools and those in less advantaged areas. Where there is a lack of available funding, surely parents should come to the party.
After all, isn’t it for the sake of their own children? Some sort of community watch system could be organised on a rotational basis. The involvement of parents would send a clear message to pupils that their safety and security is of paramount importance. What better motivation to take education seriously? Another option could be for more affluent schools to share security arrangements with schools less able to afford the same privilege. SANJAY MOODLEY, MALABAR
