Smokie mohawks and hot dancing

-

MUSIC promoters have found Port Elizabeth and are cashing in – well, except for Big Concerts perhaps. Mother Nature almost put paid to a concert in the park last Friday night at the St George’s Union Cricket Club, when the wind threatened to whip the tent venue away as Prime Circle was set to perform.

Skinnerbek has never been part of such a swift evacuation and reorganisation! The organisers did this without alarming anyone and the charity concert continued as planned.

Rock crooners Smokie came and smoked up the Boardwalk, with patrons a shade older than the usual crowd your Gossip Girl would hang with. At least I did not have to deal with very short dresses!

Fashion police alert: the guys are still sporting mohawks from the ’80s! Their fashion sense might be stuck in a time warp, but they still sound as good as they did back in the day.

I had a nail-biting moment when they asked the audience to get up and shake it. Eish!

I have a soft spot for breast cancer awareness after losing my grandmother to this disease. My dear friend Michelle Brown has hosted a breast cancer dinner annually for the past 12 years in memory of her mother and this year it was at the Summerstrand Hotel with the vivacious and hilarious Evita the star of the evening.

With her uncensored humour and straightforward talking, she delivered home truths. The evening raised R70 000 for the Look Good, Feel Good foundation.

Skinnerbek was also at Gondwana Cafe for Ciza Tha Journalist’s music launch. Inside ladies wore their skimpiest outfits and rapper MXO rocked in a Favela top, Kob pants and Tommy Hilfiger sunglasses – he was in high spirits as always.

Performer Nicki-Ann Rayepen, who rocked in a sexy mini dress, was also the MC for the night and made sure everyone felt welcome.

The party mood was set by MetroFM DJ Nutty who kept the crowd warm on the dance floor.

I had to dash off before another fire incident (remember what happened at Captain’s?) as things were hotting up on the dance floor with the video girls shaking what their mamas gave them.

Then it was off to New Brighton for Ringo Madlingozi, who did not disappoint as he took us down memory lane.

Dahling, don’t you think it’s time to release another album?
