REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

FRANKIE Smashcake, there are not only plenty of white widows in murderous SA but spare a thought for all widows. Let’s drop the white, black thing when referring to human life. God bless.

NIGEL WAKEFORD

I FIND the chirp about many widows in SA distasteful and heartless, and not at all chirpy. Why did you print it? Should the first two words, “plenty of”, not read “too many”? Harsh and offensive.

BIG-T

I AGREE that the death penalty must be reinstated, very strongly. Very sad all these violent deaths of innocent people.

YVONNE

ALAN Wilson, I agree. What was Rocco Swanepoel’s alleged killer doing on the streets? This must be fully investigated and the public informed. If anyone is found to have been responsible for this man being released, then he or she must be an accessory to this crime!

AUTHOR SHOULD BE ASHAMED

I CANNOT believe Gavin Prins is trying to get rich at Joost van der Westhuizen’s expense. He should hang his head in shame.

NO LOGIC IN SENTENCING

THE judge decides on an 18-year sentence for the parents who raped and beat their 10-month baby daughter to death because they have two other children! How logical?

SHOCKED BY SARU DECISION ON KINGS

I’M really shocked by the decision taken by the Saru big shots by not allowing the mighty Kings/EP Rugby into the Currie Cup. By the omission of EP you must know you are taking away what we like from the people of the Eastern Cape. Everything is around Gauteng and the Western Cape. Carry on. God will judge you one day. Your term will end soon. Don’t worry, Mr Watson, we are used to this kind of treatment from Saru. We are also to fight for our rights.

UNHAPPY GRAAFF-REINET EP RUGBY SUPPORTER

I AM and always will be an EP supporter, and a Hurricanes and All Black supporter to Saru and their cronies. Stick your miserable Currie Cup where the sun doesn’t shine. Hang in there, Cheeky, you are doing a fine job. Thanks.

ANDREW, PORT ELIZABETH STATING the obvious, are people so ignorant that they cannot think further than a month ahead? It is a simple matter of cause and effect! The Kings were not good enough to stay in Super Rugby. Why does it come as a surprise that the stadium would lose R11-million? Vehicle exports are down 75% – why are the strikers suddenly surprised? Did they think the massively inflated salaries they have extorted from their employers would fall from the heavens?

JUSTICE FAILING US

IT is sad to read about the murder of a mum in front of her child. Justice is failing us. I’m also sitting with a useless protection order.

WHAT’S WITH THE WEATHER?

WEATHER forecast: don’t know who supplies The Herald with temperatures, but Tuesday was not 20°C and cloudy. We cooked here within the 30s!

JAY, PORT ELIZABETH

WERE INCREASES REALLY NECESSARY? THE rates and taxes, electricity and water increases that the metro implemented: are they really necessary or just done to generate money, needed for the metro police, which will cost R900-million to implement. Just to think that the striking metro traffic cops, and unqualified and uneducated law enforcement officers will be part of them already sends shivers down my spine.

MACK, PORT ELIZABETH

ARE SECURITY PEOPLE EXEMPT FROM RULES? ARE the SAPS, traffic cops and private security companies exempt from the normal rules of the road or are their drivers just mindless bullies?

LADY

ONLY FAITHFUL WILL PAY FOR ELECTRICITY STEALING of electricity has been happening for years due to lack of policing. What is going to change? Nothing. Only the faithful will continue paying.

SOME HYDRANTS NOT WORKING

FIRES around the Fernglen, Sunridge Park, Baakens Valley areas: the fire department was put at risk due to some fire hydrants not working due to lack of maintenance.

UNIONS RULING THIS COUNTRY

WHEN going for an interview for a job, you are told what hours you will work, what your duties will be as well as the salary. When accepting the position you are agreeing to these terms. How can you go on strike after three months and demand a salary increase? Your contract becomes null and void as the unions are ruling this country.

DE

COUNCILLORS ONLY INTERESTED IN MONEY

THE Lindanathi Institute is correct. Councillors are interested in filling their pockets. They don’t care about the people who voted for them. In my street for the last 15 years we have asked for a drain due to stinking water but nobody cares. I am in Ward 15.

INVESTIGATION NEEDED

WHY do the management and senior rank carriers in the SANDF Reserve Forces misuse their ranks and positions especially here in the Eastern Cape? Wish the auditors and generals can come to visit the units, and listen to complains from everyone.

OBSERVER

WHY CALL PROTEST A ‘SLUTWALK’?

SO they call an anti-rape protest “slutwalk”? Am I completely surrounded by idiots? The mind boggles.
