Country rocker to play old and new

-

COUNTRY rock musician Brian Finch – of Finch & Henson fame – will be bringing some of his musical past and fresh material to East London next week.

Having performed in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany, Finch is currently on a tour of South Africa and Namibia.

He has performed professionally since 1968 and many will remember his partnership with the late Kenny E Henson from 1970 until 1981.

Finch will be joined by his guest band, featuring Titch Wild on drums, Themi Cooras on guitar and Cheryl Minkley on bass.

He will perform old favourites as well as new numbers to be recorded at the end of this year.

Finch recently appeared at the KKNK in Oudtshoorn. “I was performing to a whole new audience, and reached a much younger generation – the response was so good, it was inspiring.”

Home these days is Prince Albert in the Karoo, where Finch has built a stone house which he shares with his wife of 40 years, Marion-Ann.

“When not travelling to gigs, we run our own home theatre and present ‘up close and personal’ concerts with dinner cooked by me,’’ he says.

A self-taught guitarist and harmonica player, Finch owns four guitars – a Dobro, a Fender Strat, an Ovation and a Takamine acoustic.

He will perform at Legends Showcase venue in Berea, East London next Saturday, October 12. Tickets cost R100 and are on sale at Lee Gold Music opposite Checkers in Nahoon, (043) 735-1586. Finch will also perform at Eagles Ridge in Stutterheim on Friday October 11. For bookings for the Stutterheim show, phone Hester on 082-774-8770.
