Horses, donkeys and chance to see stars all go on auction
IT’S award season in the United States and the Screen Actors Guild has come up with an interesting way to raise money during its annual awards ceremony for the charities it supports.
The guild is holding an online auction in which fans can bid for seats on the bleachers overlooking the red carpet.
A total of 100 tickets will be sold this way and the money raised will go to the Screen Actors Guild Foundation’s child literacy programmes, Bookpals and Storyline Online.
The online auction closes on Tuesday at 9pm American Eastern Time (around 4am Wednesday, South African time).
Upcoming local auctions
It’s a quiet time of year on the local auction front – many auctioneers have yet to come back from Christmas break and January is traditionally a month where people have less disposable income to spend on auctions.
Here are the few options there are this week:
Today at 10am, Thompsons Trading will hold a vehicle auction at 8 Atlas Road in East London.
Vehicles range from 1993 to 2011 models and include Toyotas, VWs, BMWs, Volvos and Opels among others.
On Wednesday in Mount Frere, Mozi Auctioneers will be auctioning impounded animals at the municipal pound at 10am. In total there will be six horses, four cows, three donkeys, 71 goats and two sheep on the auction.
Then on Thursday in Port Elizabeth, Auction Operation will host a repossession and insurance vehicle auction at 142 Burman Road, Dealparty at 11am.
There will be more than 150 vehicles under the hammer.
A number of readers have been asking me whether any storage unit auctions (like the ones shown on the TV show
Storage Wars) take place in our region. If you are part of a company which holds these sorts of auctions, please let me know at mustonl@timesmedia.co.za and I will share the information with our readers.
