Star Jet motors home to win Ladies Bracelet

- Post Racing Editor

STAR JET made a winning Port Elizabeth debut for the Justin Snaith yard when she easily won the Lady's Bracelet over 1 600m at Fairview yesterday.

The Jet Master filly was the second favourite at 2810, beating the favourite and arguably the best bet on the card, Daffodil Day (18-10), by half a length. Titlee (11-2) ran third ahead of Diamond Emblem (22-1).

Marry Me Mullins led for most of the way and was followed by Arrow Heart and Diamond Emblem. With 900m to run Mission House moved into third place with Sunningdale at the back of the field. The order stayed the same up to the 300m mark where Star Jet made her move with Show Time also trying to catch the leaders.

With 200m left Star Jet looked comfortable in front with Daffodil Day chasing hard all the way. At the post 0.50 lengths separated the first two runners, but Jet Star won easier than the distance suggests.

However, Star Jet's victory did not come as a surprise as she finished only a length behind Antonia's Fortress in her last race at Kenilworth on December 18.

Star Jet has now won two races from 13 starts for the Drakenstein Stud and is set for more success in the Eastern Cape. She paid R4,10 a win and R1,60 a place.

The first leg of the Jackpot started off with an upset result when 15-2 shot Winter Fantasy won Race 4 over 1 200m, followed by Follow The Tiger (50-1), African Lily (5-1) and Crimson Fire (251). Punters were stunned when 13-10 favourite Darling Moon, starting at 9-10, could not make the first four. The Snaith runner was always well supported in the betting, but was never a factor.

The Indigo Magic filly came to Port Elizabeth with two wins and six places from nine starts, but was not good enough on the day.

Winter Fantasy, who was brilliantly ridden by Greg Cheyne, scored her third win from seven starts for Messrs CG & LF Scribante.

Punters were given another hiding in Race 5 when 75-1 outsider, Stormy Ridge from the Alan Greeff yard, came home powerfully to win going away. The Tiger Ridge gelding came to Port Eliza- beth with poor form, having won his last race on November 10, 2012, but yesterday he won like a champion.

Stormy Ridge was followed home by Money For Love (33-10), Navistar (10-1) and Vauclair (12-10).

He paid R36,10 a win and R6,90 a place.

Vauclair's inabillity to finish in the first three also hurt Place Accumulator hopefuls.

Oats (28-10) was a popular winner of Race 6, giving trainer Grant Paddock and jockey Wayne Agrella a treble for the day. Oats was followed home by Nile Symphony (45-1), Tall Ship (75-1) and My Jelly Bean (8-1), ensuring a R33 228,70 Quartet dividend.

The victory of Brother In Arms (7-1) in the last race did not make things easier for Pick 6 punters, ensuring another massive pay-out.

Big dividends were the order of the day. The Pick 6 paid R767 260.30 to only 1.15 winning ticket, while the Bipot and Jackpot paid R5 606,30 and R8 588,0 respectively. The Place Accumulator paid R789,50.

The only favourites to prevail on the day were Evariste (5-2) in Race 3 and Oats (2810) in Race 6.
