Carryover Pick 6 at Fairview is catchable

- Herald Racing Editor

PICK 6 punters have everything to play for courtesy of a R250 000 carry over at Fairview tomorrow. After some big losses over the last couple of weeks, some could be lucky this time with an estimated pool of R850 000.

The Pick 6 has always been a tricky affair down in the Eastern Cape, but tomorrow’s card does not seem to be all that rough although the first leg of the Pick 6 could pose the biggest headache.

Here all hopes are on Bluebird Lake, Ceriba and Forest Nymph. If none of them runs according to form, it is anybody’s race.

The main event of the day is Race 6 - an Open FM Handicap over 2 200m with prize money of R73 000. The three horses who stand out are Paddy’s Girl, Shreya’s Choice and Rushing Elf.

Paddy’s Girl is from the Gavin Smith yard and will have Louis Mxothwa in the saddle. She won her last race over 2 000m, but was demoted to second following an objection by Titlee.

In her penultimate start she beat Mark Of Divine over 1 600m and ran on well on that occasion. Paddy’s Girl is a two-time winner with seven places from 19 starts.

Shreya’s Choice, from the Grant Paddock stable, seems to be her biggest danger. The four-year-old daughter of Mon Sang is a former Gauteng campaigner and ran third in her PE debut behind Titlee over 2 000m, staying on nicely in the closing stages.

She is set for an improved run. Muzi Yeni takes the ride and will carry 52kg, 2kg less than last time.

Shreya’s Choice has won one race and placed twice in 11 starts and will try the Polytrack for the first time. If this is to her liking she must rate a massive chance.

Rushing Elf is also a strong contender. Greg Cheyne has ridden her in her last two starts and will be on top again tomorrow. Trained by Alan Greeff, the daughter of Windrush is showing good form and is a better horse than her last run suggests when finishing ninth – 4,40 lengths behind Titlee.

Rushing Elf is an experienced campaigner with three wins and 14 places from 39 starts. This could count heavily in her favour tomorrow.

Any of La Salle, Silva Chant and Olivian could complete the Quartet.

Nine races are carded with Race 1 off at 12.35. This is a Maiden Plate for all maidens over 1 200m.
