CELEBS & THEIR CASH

-

THE well-known face of The Boardwalk Hotel, events coordinator Siya Mfundisi speaks to The Herald about why money matters.

Q: Are you a spender or a saver?

A: A bit of both, whenever you spend you earn points.

Q: Have you ever been in debt or really short of cash?

A: Yes, in my first year of moving into the flat I currently live in, I even considered moving into a flat share. I was so broke I could not even pay attention.

Q: What do you like to splurge on?

A: Shoes and furniture are my weaknesses.

Q: Do you do monthly, weekly or daily grocery shopping?

A: Weekly, however my budget for the weeks gets worked out at the beginning of the month.

Q: How do you and your partner separate your spending?

A: We both have separate accounts, however mid-month is declaration time of the spending and how to best survive for the rest of the month.

Q: Do you prefer to pay with cash, credit card or account?

A: Credit card, and then pay it from my current account. The e-bucks you pick up from the swipes are amazing, I recently had so much e-bucks I could splurge on a television set.

Q: Will you have enough money when you retire?

A: Definitely – when I turned 30, I realised I am not getting any younger and I need to start planning for the future. Q: Do you invest your money? A: I have a financial adviser and my partner is currently guiding me about the ins and outs of the stock market.

Q: What car are you driving and is it expensive to maintain?

A: I do not drive and do not have any urgent need for a car at the moment.

Q: What is your financial advice to the public?

A: Have that nest egg tucked away for a rainy day. However, do not forget to have a good life while you still can and are capable of enjoying the fruits of your labour.
