LION City continued to keep up the pressure on the log leaders in the Safa-NMB SAB League with an emphatic 5-0 win over Motherwell Academy.

City are in third place, two points behind Subs, with Callies a further two points ahead.

After leading 1-0 at the break through a goal by Mihlali Mkonto, City went on a goal-scoring spree in the second half.

Mkonto struck immediately after the break before Thlani Shumpa made it 3-0. A brace by Malibongwe completed the rout.

Callies maintained their lead with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Pefa neighbours Central Acemates.

Emmanuel Hendricks put the log leaders ahead when he scored from inside the penalty box.

It was anybody’s game until five minutes before the final whistle when Orenthal Jordaan sealed it for Callies.

Meanwhile, Subs, who lost their position on the log after losing to Callies, scored their first win in three starts when they beat Highland Spurs 2-1 at the Jabavu Stadium. Spurs took an early lead through Mthetheleli Gavin in the first 10 minutes.

After the break, Ludwe Sonjica put Subs on level terms, and with the match heading for a draw super sub Lizo Mahala scored the winner.

The gap between the three frontrunners and the also-rans widened after Fairview Rovers were held to a goalless draw by Camper United.

Rovers are now 14 points behind third-placed Lion City.

Hotspurs jumped three places to join Rovers in fourth with an excellent 2-0 win over Despatch Pioneers.

While Callies, Subs and City are battling it out for league honours, Motherwell, Tomorrow Stars and Sunrise Development are locked in a relegation battle. They are tied at the bottom with just nine points each.

However, Stars and Sunrise have a match in hand.
