Matrics get ‘kitted’ out for exams

MATRICULANTS this year are once again relying on the Matric Survival Kit to help them prepare for one of the most important exams of their life.

The kit is distributed to 5 000 around Nelson Mandela Bay with the assistance of The Herald and General Motors South Africa.

Chatty Senior Secondary School acting principal Nazlie Chan-King said the supplement was useful and relevant. “We use the kit in our extra classes and it covers all the subjects available. It brought radical change seeing that we had no textbooks last year,” she said.

“We plan on running afternoon classes next term in order to prepare the pupils for the June exams. We already have a drafted programme for Saturdays, including classes after school, in which we will put the kit to good use.”

Chan-King said they were slightly behind schedule because they started using the kit three weeks later than they should have.

Pupils Keenan Plaatjies, 17, and Brandy Lottering, 16, said the kits were useful and made studying easier.

“I had a level 4 in life science last year, which I would like to improve to a level 5 this year, and I know that with the Matric Survival Kit I’ll be able to achieve it,” Keenan said.

Sharonese Draghoender, 17, said the “very helpful” kits would not only prepare her for the matric exams, but also for a career in business management which she hoped to pursue.

“My business marks increased last year and it’s all thanks to the kit. I use it mostly for business management and life science.

“It definitely made working out questions so much easier,” she said.
