PE fans delighted Tamia on her way
CANADIAN singer Tamia cannot wait to perform in South Africa this week and, for once, Port Elizabeth will not be missing out.
The 38-year-old singer, whose hits include Stranger in my House, Missing You and You Put a Move On My Heart, starts her Beautiful Surprise Tour in Cape Town tomorrow, before heading to Gauteng and finally The Boardwalk International Convention Centre next Wednesday.
Event organiser Jerome Vonwillingh said yesterday the Port Elizabeth two-hour show was sold out. “Unfortunately there will be no second show. A lot of planning has been done already and she has to fly back to New York after her performance. However she will dazzle her fans with 16 songs. That’s why we don’t have a lot of supporting artists.
“She will only be supported by Port Elizabeth’s Belinda Davids,” he said, promising to provide a bigger venue the next time they brought an international artist to Port Elizabeth.
Davids, originally of Gelvandale, plays the lead role in Showtime Australia’s The Greatest Love of All, a tribute to the late Whitney Houston.
Tamia, who landed in Johannesburg on Tuesday, immediately announced her arrival – with a picture – on social networks.
“Finally landed in South Africa, can’t wait to perform for you all,” she wrote.
Fans have also taken to social networks to show their excitement. Cliffie Stuurman wrote: “So flippen glad one of SA’s ‘big cities’ [Durban] is losing out. Feel how we feel because we always get left out. And when we dearly want to / have to see a touring artist, we have to travel at great expense to your cities. Our show is sold out. I have my tickets.”
Thembeka Gcilitshana welcomed Tamia to the city and asked her to “Show us what you’ve got please”.
The show starts at 8pm.
