A GROUP of local musicians and performers have put together an album which will be launched this weekend and on sale from next week, all in the name of charity.

“The Ocean Rock Collection album has 18 tracks, with 16 original songs by the Eastern Cape’s finest artists, such as the Stuart Reece Band, Wayne Kallis, Faye Gatley and The Soloflares, Sisanda Myataza , Tim Sedso, Gino Fabbri, Monique van der Ham, Hugo Kleinhans and many more,” Ocean Rock Entertainment (which recorded the album) owner Fran- cois Theron Malan said. The group’s first single is REM’s 1992 song, Everybody Hurts.

This song, another cover, and original songs from the musicians or bands, will be available to buy from select venues in Port Elizabeth over the next few months.

“All proceeds from the album sales will go towards the Ocean Rock Cares initiative, a project that helps less privileged children in the Eastern Cape,” Malan said.

“If this project works, I’d very much like The Ocean Rock Collection to become an annual release. Sort of like PE’s own Now! compilation disc, featuring stand-out musicians of that year,” Malan said.

The CD will be available at R100 from selected outlets including Bridge Street Brewery, Something Good, Colonial Kitchen, Friendly Stranger, Chingada’s Mexican Cantina, The Island, The Music Kitchen, The Cash Store, Kaffeine Espresso Bar, Barn and Barrel and Tempo Musik, from Tuesday.

Depending on the response, orders for CDs may also be made on Facebook.

According to Malan, Ocean Rock plans to do something special for underprivileged children in December.

“Its also a very nice way to get talented local musicians some much deserved exposure.

“This idea came about last year, when Ocean Rock Cares, along with Wayne’s own charity collected donations from the public and companies and bought 200 children toys, books, sporting goods, food, organised jumping castles and live music and also sponsored transport to and from a venue for the children,” Malan said. Ocean Rock raised more than R27 000. “I’m holding thumbs that we can double that amount purely with album sales.”

Tomorrow’s launch will be held at Music Kitchen in Newton Park at 7pm and entry is R30. Watch the single on www.facebook.com/oceanrockpe or Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zprgo8z7H3o
