Humewood set for links festival
HUMEWOOD are preparing for an influx of golfers over the next week as the club hosts the Chevrolet Festival of Links Golf for the 18th year.
Since the event was started in the mid- ’90s, a total of 9 000 golfers have experienced the pleasure, and sometimes the pain, of playing on the classic links layout.
With the course in excellent condition, the festival organisers are hoping for good daily fields when the festival kicks off on Sunday, continuing until next Saturday.
This is the second year Chevrolet is sponsoring the historic Humewood Golf Club, with their aim to ensure the course retains its status as one of the most sought-after golfing venues in the country.
“The sponsorship is focused on maintaining Humewood as one of South Africa’s most celebrated and historic clubs,” Chevrolet brand manager Tim Hendon said.
The festival serves as a key fundraiser for the Humewood Golf Club, raising money to assist with the maintenance of the clubhouse and its employees.
With this year’s event open to all affiliated golfers, it is expected to attract many entrants from around the country and from abroad. Scheduled as a seven-day tournament, the festival offers the following opportunities: Sunday: Mixed alliance Mon: Individual point stableford Tues: 4BBB stableford Weds: 4BBB bonus bogey Thurs: Four-ball alliance Fri: 4BBB stableford Sat: 4BBB medal The morning fee for the festival is R120 and the afternoon fee is R150.
