Runaway Muir win
Uitenhage school score eight tries against Despatch
MUIR produced a powerful display of running rugby with eight tries as they quelled a spirited challenge from Nelson Mandela Bay neighbours Despatch at Muir in Uitenhage yesterday.
The final score of 52-19 was a fair reflection of the game, although Despatch never gave up trying and were rewarded with three second-half tries.
Muir were in full control in the first half when they ran in tries through prop Libonga Ma- sango, wings Xolani Daniels and Sitembisho Metshe, and fullback Ruben de Vos, who added three conversions.
De Vos was full of running from the last line of defence, while centre Lunathi Nxele often led the way as the Muir players put in a number of hard charges.
Unfortunately for the home side, they were punished for some unnecessarily over-robust play in the second half, being reduced to 13 players after two red cards.
Despatch took their chances and despite the big deficit, they kept running at the Muir defence and scored three excellent tries through wing Heinrich Barnard, fullback Stulavian Kivido and flyhalf Sheldon Meiring.
However Muir had enough firepower to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Nxele crossed twice and Siphalele Latola and Mzi Goba completed the tryscoring.
Westering v Nottingham
WESTERING built on their win against Woodridge at the weekend with an impressive 38-17 victory over touring English side Nottingham High School on Monday.
It was a game of two halves for Westering. The first, which they led 12-10 at the break, lacked structure and cohesiveness. The second half was in complete contrast as they turned on the charm to score some superb tries in fading light.
Westering opened the scoring through right wing Zaakir Potgieter as early as the third minute. But Nottingham struck right back with a penalty by flyhalf Alex Walsh three minutes later. Nottingham took the lead when left wing Sam Thomas crossed the line and Walsh converted after 24 minutes.
Westering pushed their noses ahead going into the break with a try by flyhalf Jordan le Roux and a conversion from Lyle Draghoender.
The second half started as a ding-dong battle, but Westering ran in four sparkling tries in the last minutes through Potgieter again, Caydon Roach and Siphosethu Fayo (2). Draghoender added two more conversions and Fayo another.
