Rhodes should stick to educating
RESPONSE to the Rhodes University proposal of SA sanctions against Israel. The quiet hamlet of Grahamstown, where students enjoy smoking grass and weekend binges is far removed from the Middle East where religion is government, scripture is law and revenge determines tomorrow.
What and who of any significance have our universities of the last 20 years produced? Elon Musk, SA’s only technological contribution to the betterment of humanity graduated from a Canadian University.
Jews from Israel have done so much while still wearing rags and concentration camp uniforms. Today they have an annual GDP in excess of $291.36-billion (R3-trillion) mainly from technological R&D. The Iron Dome which fends off hundreds of Hamas missiles a day has already got their export order book filled. Israel have now found vast natural gas reserves which they are going to sell for billions of dollars.
Considering that the ANC has taken SA from a net exporter of food to a net importer, SA universities should forge relationships with Israel on how to produce food on barren land.
Rhodes university should focus on educating, which is their mandate. SA is a drop in the ocean to Israel. Rhodes should look at history and the essence of the two nations and try to neutrally evaluate the Palestinian and Jewish arguments rather than simply reasoning to the conclusion they want by looking at today’s events.
Since the Jews arrived in Palestine to live freely in a state for the Jews (not a Jewish state) where they could practise their faith alongside Muslims and Christians, the Palestinian and Arab world have been hell bent on their destruction. Compare this to the Zimbabweans and Somalians who have found a country to live freely in, in SA.
“Hamas’ enmity toward Israel is not because of Israel’s policies or actions. It is because of Israel’s identity and existence. The Hamas charter continues, “Israel, by virtue of its being Jewish and of having a Jewish population, defies Islam and the Muslims.” The ultimate stated goal of Hamas is destroying Israel, killing all the Jews, creating a worldwide Islamist Caliphate and forcing the rest of humanity into the shackles of Shari’a law.
Hamas in recent weeks have executed numerous moderate Palestinians opposing their attacks on Israel. Hamas know how to get world sympathy – through Israeli soldiers killing Palestinians, especially children. So they sacrifice them.
Rioting and attacks on and massacres of Jews in Palestine started from 1921. One million Jews were formally eradicated and expelled from Arab states en masse from 1947 fleeing to a safe haven in Israel.
It will take a lot more than SA sanctions to stop Israel from protecting themselves from the Arabs, Hamas and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis). This same Hamas, Isis, Al Qaeda charter is for the whole world to convert to – or face the consequence. Brace yourself, the ride is going to get rough.
