LAUGH OUT LOUD

SA’S TOP COMEDIANS DESCEND ON THE BAY

-

SOME of the biggest names on the South African comedy circuit will be heading for Port Elizabeth this weekend when the highly rated Nando’s Mass Hysteria Comedy Tour – described as “diabolically funny” – hits town.

Nando’s has been on a mission to showcase South Africa’s best stand-up comedic talent and this hit show is now in its third year.

Members of Port Elizabeth’s “stunned constituency” may buy their tickets and come and see what is billed as a “truly outrageous and hilarious assembly” at the Boardwalk International Convention Centre tonight.

The audience will watch as some of South Africa’s funniest “ministers” assume office; if comedy had a government, this is what it would look like.

This year’s Mass Hysteria cabinet will include celebrated names in the industry such as John Vlismas as the Public Attacker; Tumi Morake as the Minister of Hormones, Carbohydrates and Calmettes; Nik Rabinowitz as the Minister of Mental Health, Sunday Lunch and Personal Hygiene and Alan Committie as the Minister of Headucation and “Literasy”.

Then there is also Chester Missing as the Minister of Non-Human Settlements; Joey Rasdien, the Minister of Haircare, Skincare and Aponea; Ndumiso Lindi, the Minister of Culture; and, finally, Mpho Popps, the Minister of Single Fathers and Roads.

With this new portfolio, politics and comedy are about to receive a shake-up like never before, promoters of the show promise.

From grassroots to gravy train, tonight’s audience may expect the ministers to tackle topics like President Zuma’s Nkandlagate scandal, the much-loathed e-tolls system and the recent woes of national broadcaster the SABC.

And the paralympian on tri- al, Oscar Pistorius, is also unlikely to be spared the comedians’ wit.

“The Mass Hysteria cabinet have sworn their oaths to make South Africa a funnier place, and by all accounts, they are delivering on their promises,” events coordina- tor at the Boardwalk Hotel, Casino, Spa and Convention Centre Siya Mfundisi said.

“Shows at venues across the country have been sold out, with audiences dubbing it one of the funniest and cheekiest comedy events this election year,” Mfundisi said.

Tickets to the Mass Hysteria Comedy Tour are available at Computicket from R153 per person.

The show starts at 8pm sharp.
