SOCIAL INTEGRATION PLAN FOR BAY

THOUGH I am dead against racial discrimination from all sides, I am against the government’s plan to integrate SA communities through social housing. In the old SA we were forced by the NP to live apart from each other and now under the ANC we are being forced to live together, like it or not. It needs to be a choice for it to be successful. You cannot force people to like each other. On one hand our constitution allows for the freedom of association and on the other the government removes the right with its communistic housing system approach.

NIGEL WAKEFORD ALL these RDP houses being built and linked to all middle class suburbs are ruining the areas. For instance in Malabar Ext, there is gang violence. Doesn’t the government think before implementing?

AL “RDP houses for Summerstrand”: just another ANC “foefie” to obtain votes in 2016, as it does not have the budget nor will it be there to fulfil this assignment as the DA will be in place.

TOLD DON’T QUALIFY FOR NEW ID CARD IN 1947 I became a SA citizen and hold the usual ID book and also a SA passport. On applying to Home Affairs in PE for the new ID card was told that I did not qualify as I was born in England.

THE EDUCATION DICHOTOMY

ONLY in the new South Africa are the pupils not allowed to cheat in exams, but the teachers are ordered to falsify results to ensure that most, if not all the pupils pass. These results make the Education Department look good on paper, but leave the majority still uneducated enough to continue to vote for the ruling party time and time again. A T-shirt or food hamper at election time is normally all it takes to secure their vote.

RHINO HUNTING CONTROVERSY

HOW insensitive can your newspaper be to report the hunting of rhinos legally and illegally on the same page as reporting the passing away of such a great man and conservationist as Dr Ian Player?

AK WHAT kind of human being can pull a trigger and take the God-given life of such a magnificent creature, not to mention lions and elephants? All they want is to live in peace. Do the hunters really get some sense of satisfaction or achievement from it? No words can express my disgust and contempt for them! May the law

of karma come back on them.

SICKENED AND DISGUSTED HERE we are raising monies to protect the rhino, only to hear they are legally hunted. What scum, you are destroying God’s beautiful earth and anything that moves and breathes!

BEN THE Herald editorial on legal rhino hunting ends by posing the question: “Is it all just about simple economics?". Unfortunately we live in a world where decision-making is becoming increasingly concentrated in the hands of obscenely wealthy billionaires, a world where money talks. We are witnessing unbridled capitalism on an unprecedented scale in modern history. The moral principle of the common good is largely just lip-service. A sad indictment on humanity in the 21st century. We need to re-examine our approach to nature.

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

IN reply to Monga Peter’s letter supporting the appointment of Pam Yako, we are not disputing her appointment, and also we don’t doubt her leadership qualities and great wealth of experience. Our problem is her salary scale and we think R27 000 a day is a bit too much. Lastly we must not overrate her. Think again, comrade Monga.

PEPE NKOMOMBINI MONGA Peter, so Pam Yako is doing a good job in Makana? I would have thought, at R27 000 per day, she should be! Also, since when are opposition politicians partly responsible for the demise of Makana? Such absolute rubbish!

BARRY GORDON Upton, this municipality is useless, and has never heard of or understood what it is to be proactive.
