Tri-A-Fun sees keen racing

-

THE first event of the Tri-A-Fun Series proved a huge success at Pollok Beach at the weekend.

The men’s race turned into an exciting tussle, with Clinton Gravett and Raynard Tissink heading the swim and starting the 20km cycle together.

But it was Tissink who started the run with a 30-second lead, followed by Gravett and SA long distance champion Gerhard de Bruyn, who is in PE preparing for Ironman on Sunday.

Gravett gradually closed the gap on Tissink and took the lead with 200m to go, winning by six seconds. The rematch on April 12 will be an interesting one, es- pecially with a set of Continental tyres at stake.

One of the top performances of the day came from junior Keegan Cooke, who had the secondfastest run and finished fourth overall in the men’s race.

In the women’s race, the lead changed hands several times before Liza Bright crossed the line first, 38 seconds ahead of Michelle Enslin, and Alexia Loizou third.

The first men’s team in the sprint relay was Cyclo Pro – Bruce Campbell, David Majara and Grant Daly – followed by Vukani Multi Sports Club.

The first women’s team was Natalie Tissink and Marisa Fer- raris of Team Tissink Triathlon.

In the junior races Jamie Riddle led from start to finish to win by a minute, followed by Munro Munnik. Kyle Flanagan and Aidan Baker did well to claim third and fourth places respectively.

Kris-Mari Voges won the junior girls’ race, followed by Chelsea Cooke and Jenna Parry.

The Grey High team – Daniel Ward, Luken Wright, and Aidan Dugmore – won the junior team race, followed by JKS.

The first girls’ team was the Flaming Pink Flamingos – Anastacia Dorfling, Britney van der Merwe and Amber Dorfling – followed by Westering Primary.
