Close contests in Pefa junior soccer

THERE were several close contests as the third round of the PE Football Associatio­n (Pefa) junior leagues took place in fine conditions on Sunday.

In the U9 division, St George’s Braves beat Priory Pirates 2-0, with goals by David Reid and Jayden White.

Callies Thistles went down 1-0 to Priory Rangers, with Priory’s goal coming from the boot of Matthew Ladds.

Hearts Cubs had an easy win over Callies Saltires, with hat-tricks from Zach Thornton and Daniel Stevenson, while Adam Moulton, 5, scored the first goal of his career.

St George’s Aces easily beat Priory Pirates, with Connor Ferreira, Caleb Humphries and Luke Hundleby each scoring a hat-trick.

Priory United beat Callies Highlander­s 6-0 in the final U9 game of the day.

In the U11 division, Callies A beat Priory 5-1 with goals by Sarshen Pillay (2), Ashley Ostling (2) and Calib Frank.

St George’s A beat Callies B 8-0 with Payton Spencer bagging five goals.

In probably the best game of the weekend, the Callies U15A team came back from 3-1 down at the break to beat United Brothers 5-4.

St George’s A had to work hard to beat Callies B 1-0, with the goal coming from the boot of Ross Greatorex.

There were two close games in the U17 division, with Motherwell beating Hearts 3-2.

Callies beat United Brothers 2-1 in a tense affair at Londt Park, with goals by Ethan Human and Jaydon Gaseba for Callies.

NMMU beat PE Homerovers 4-1 at Kemsley Park.
