JAYDE MURDER CASE DEVELOPMENTS

JAYDE’S case is very strange, and I end up playing detective and asking myself so many questions, suspecting everyone. I asked myself why she was standing outside on the street? Townhouses are enclosed. If it was dark, why did the husband not accompany her? She looked strong, why did she not cry out? Was the car window tinted? Why did she not make smart moves to escape at stop signs and robots? Lastly, why did they shoot her three times? It was clear they wanted her dead, but why? She was a vulnerable woman. It was enough for them to rob her but to kill her that way it was horrible. May her soul rest in peace.

X GODUKA

TO THE reader wondering if I still support the death penalty after the latest revelations in the Jayde case, you bet your life I do!

THE GRIM REAPER

THE cowards who killed Jayde deserve to be hung in the Market Square as it was a premeditated act and all involved must be jailed for many years as well. RIP Jayde.

DUNCAN VAN RENSBURG

TALK about the ultimate betrayal, Chris. Do you sleep at night or does Jayde’s beautiful face haunt you? Do you have a heart and a conscience? Do you not know that money can flow in and out like water? We have lost a very special woman who had so much to offer. Hope you’re at peace Jayde. Sincere condolences to her family, friends and pupils.

CALLS FOR THE DEATH PENALTY

WHY can this country not pass a special law that all rhino poachers be sentenced to death, and any who are spotted be shot on sight? Look up what happens if one shoots a bald eagle in the US. These scum are stealing our children’s heritage, they don’t deserve to live among decent human beings.

SICKENED I SAY bring the death penalty back and hang the savages and please take note, this goes for every skin colour.

TOP EDUCATOR RETIRES

WELL said, Vincent Oliphant, (“OBE damaged our schools,” The Herald April 30), I second every word you said. I wish more educators would agree with you. Enjoy your retirement.

CONVERTING OLD POST OFFICE BUILDING

BUT Bernice Wright, your beautiful old Post Office building is the epitome of colonialism, it must go! The municipal council chambers must be housed in mud and grass huts.

P U PAUL, PORT ELIZABETH

I FULLY agree with the comments made by Bernice Wright about the use of the Old Post Office.

JILL COWIE

BERNICE Wright thinks the area where the Old Post Office Building stands is PE’s central business area. Ha! Where has she been these past 20 years?

PAUL VAN AS

FORLEE’S BUILDING DEMOLISHED

I HAVE noticed in cities and towns around the world (including Stellenbosch) they preserve the front facade of the building if it is of any historical interest. This is generally very aesthetically pleasing. This should have been done with the old Forlee building. It’s very sad that greed normally comes before aesthetics.

MORAL DECLINE

THE Herald decries the decline in moral and ethical leadership in our nation, communities and families. Is it okay to advertise a “hit man”, “tax fraud consultant” or “adultery services”? Advertising prostitution and sexual services in the classifieds supports the moral decline. I encourage the editors to take a bold, courageous and unashamedly moral stand to support healthy family values instead of making money off supposedly “social” adverts.

CELEBRATING WORKERS’ DAY

RE: “No solidarity on May 1st”. If you look further afield, May Day has many origins, the last one being adopted by the unions/workers. Google it. My memory of May Day was dancing round the maypole to celebrate spring, decorating our prams and whatever toys we had with coloured crepe paper. Donning our new spring dress to show the neighbours. But then that would be too nice and happy these days.

KINGS RUGBY

I’M ALL for picking young rugby players. But they must have a coach that will get them motivated and want to win.

EP SUPPORTER IN REPLY to Thomas (The Herald, April 30). Mzwandile Stick and Carlos Spencer are doing a great job – it’s the players must pull up their socks and win.

WATER LEAKS

RE: WATER leaks in Summerstrand, Trevor you are lucky, we reported a leak in January at 23 Caseley Street, Korsten and it’s still running.

VAN ZYL SWANEPOEL

MAYORAL APPOINTMENTS

ALBERT Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. President Jacob Zuma would appear to be part of this systemic insanity. How many mayors must we endure before we realise that (a) the mayoral model of governance is obviously not working and (b) there are other more appropriate models of governance. I despair.

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

RE: “Freedom has failed SA pupils,” (The Herald 30 April). Yes Naushad Omar, what an excellent letter. My heart goes out to so many pupils in rural areas who have to walk to school in all weathers daily. As many are without breakfast, the food at school meant for pupils is “stolen from their mouths”. Shame on those involved. Please can our government do something? These children are the future of our nation. Thank you Naushad for saying it as it is.
